IT'S BU-TT BOWL WEEK! And we're spending a lengthy amount of time on what should amount to a titanic clash between two heavyweights that—juuuust kidding. Mark rejoins Fank and Peter to discuss coaches, PJ Fleck, TEXAS LOST TO KANSAS, and a little bit of the BUTT bowl. It's fun.

Amy Pagitt joins David and Peter to discuss the Baylor game against TCU... It was a "live" podcast, so things are kinda off-the-rails. Sorry not sorry.

The CFP Rankings are dumb. That game against the Texas Longhorns was dumb. Officiating is dumb. Everything is dumb.

Looking back at the final bye week of the season for the Baylor Bears and what we learned about the Big 12, plus previewing the biggest game of the season for the Bears thus far. We're talking Baylor vs. Texas.

After months of courting presentations from expansion lottery hopefuls and generally leading the world of college football on, the Big 12 Conference is NOT expanding. This comes as a surprise to no one, most likely, but it's still somewhat ridiculous, given all the talk of "psychological disadvantages" and openness to expansion of the past few months. Still, though, the conference is keeping its plan of adding a Conference Championship Game in place, because that's still a GREAT idea (it's not).

We're talking about that! We're talking about Homecoming! We're talking about the first half of the season! Much, much more. Get it.

After a week off, ODP is back, talking about some of the more exciting moments from last weekend, the relative size of college metropolitan areas, population requirements for Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and other really important things like how many levels could Patrick Levels level. And oh yeah, Homecoming against Kansas.

David and Peter are back in advance of the Iowa State Cyclones vs. Baylor Bears game in Ames, Iowa on Saturday. Before we get there, we're talking about LSU's firing of Les Miles and its impact on the Baylor coaching search, as well as the growing cult following of PJ Fleck. Of course, we're also talking Iowa State vs. Baylor and picks of the week!

Fank and Peter are back on the podcast talking about the Baylor Bears' 35-24 victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the performances on both sides of the ball. We're talking about just how impressive this defense was, despite being completely gassed and giving up ALL the yards on third downs. Because when you look closely, it really was dang impressive. There's a lot of football left to be played, but for at least the first game of Big 12 play, we're satisfied.

Recapping the Baylor Bears win over the Rice Owls, the rest of non-conference play, the Big 12 to date (which appears to be wide open at this point), plus looking ahead to Oklahoma State and the gold rush on Saturday.

Look when we decided to do an episode of the podcast recapping the SMU game it was because there was a TON of stuff to talk about from Week 2. As it turns out, this week's matchup is less than compelling. We're soldiering on, though! We're talking Baylor vs. Rice, our go-to teams in NFL Blitz and Tecmo Bowl, picks of the week, plus your questions! Enjoy.

Fank and Peter are back to recap the SMU game. We're discussing our impressions of the White Out - how it looked both in person and on television. We're talking offensive struggles, Seth Russell's accuracy issues, stone hands problems, and how comparisons of some of these early-season struggles to the first two games of last year are keeping us from panicking. We're confident that the offensive issues will get sorted out in due time. Both lines struggled, but the defense really kicked it into gear after the first quarter, and definitely came out of halftime ready to play.

Patrick Levels had himself another fantastic game, and we got to see the return of Orion Stewart to dominance, with one touchdown-saving interception and then scored on his second interception of the game. Davion Hall got to use his height to his advantage, as well as his wide receiver hands in jumping up to snag an interception in the end zone. Some real bright spots in this game.

Plus we're talking wild finishes in the Big 12. Fun times.

Mark and Peter take back to the airwaves after a 4+ month hiatus to discuss... Well, everything. A lot has happened since the last podcast. Peter's wife had a baby. Yay! Some unpleasant basketball happened. Boo. And... All the rest of it.

Sigh.

We have to talk about it, at least for a bit. Art Briles is no longer the head football coach. Ian McCaw is no longer the Athletic Director. All but one of the 2017 commits decided to reopen their recruiting. A sizable chunk of the 2016 class, which had signed Letters of Intent, were released and have selected new schools. And then there's the matter of Jarrett Stidham.

But...

The nucleus of the 2016 squad is still here. We may have some depth issues on the offensive and defensive lines, but the 2016 team is still in pretty good shape, all things considered.

And we have a new Athletic Director. Mack Rhoades is in. Media Days are figuratively right around the corner.

Football is coming.

If you haven’t looked yet, you should probably keep an eye peeled outside of your house, around your neighborhood or place of employment, because there’s a good chance that Johnny Jefferson will have either ran past your house or will in the very near future. We said on the Preview podcast (or perhaps the Texas recap? I forget) that he would have to have a monster day to hit 1,000 yards rushing and, boy, did he ever. He hit the mark right on the nose, with 299 yards rushing in the game to become Baylor’s second 1000-yard rusher for the 2015 season.

So yeah, we’re talking Johnny Jeff. What else? I’m glad you asked!

The Stuff

  • Happy New Year!
  • College Football Playoff on New Years’ Eve (ugh)
  • Possible solutions to the situation
  • Playoff Results
  • New Years Six Bowl Results
  • Big 12 Bowl recap
  • THE RUSSELL ATHLETIC BOWL!!!
    • Crow is eaten
    • But mostly, we’re marveling at:
    • Coaching staff
    • Stable of RBs and snap-takers
    • Johnny Jefferson
    • Offensive Line
    • More!

This was SUCH a fun game, and we’re glad to have gotten to take part in it.

Question for the Commentariat

How do you feel about a) those games being on New Years’ Eve instead of New Years Day or later and b) the CFP games not being the last bowl games of the season? What are your thoughts on fixing?
