OurDailyPodcast

Mark and Peter take back to the airwaves after a 4+ month hiatus to discuss... Well, everything. A lot has happened since the last podcast. Peter's wife had a baby. Yay! Some unpleasant basketball happened. Boo. And... All the rest of it.

Sigh.

We have to talk about it, at least for a bit. Art Briles is no longer the head football coach. Ian McCaw is no longer the Athletic Director. All but one of the 2017 commits decided to reopen their recruiting. A sizable chunk of the 2016 class, which had signed Letters of Intent, were released and have selected new schools. And then there's the matter of Jarrett Stidham.

But...

The nucleus of the 2016 squad is still here. We may have some depth issues on the offensive and defensive lines, but the 2016 team is still in pretty good shape, all things considered.

And we have a new Athletic Director. Mack Rhoades is in. Media Days are figuratively right around the corner.

Football is coming.

If you haven’t looked yet, you should probably keep an eye peeled outside of your house, around your neighborhood or place of employment, because there’s a good chance that Johnny Jefferson will have either ran past your house or will in the very near future. We said on the Preview podcast (or perhaps the Texas recap? I forget) that he would have to have a monster day to hit 1,000 yards rushing and, boy, did he ever. He hit the mark right on the nose, with 299 yards rushing in the game to become Baylor’s second 1000-yard rusher for the 2015 season.

So yeah, we’re talking Johnny Jeff. What else? I’m glad you asked!

The Stuff

  • Happy New Year!
  • College Football Playoff on New Years’ Eve (ugh)
  • Possible solutions to the situation
  • Playoff Results
  • New Years Six Bowl Results
  • Big 12 Bowl recap
  • THE RUSSELL ATHLETIC BOWL!!!
    • Crow is eaten
    • But mostly, we’re marveling at:
    • Coaching staff
    • Stable of RBs and snap-takers
    • Johnny Jefferson
    • Offensive Line
    • More!

This was SUCH a fun game, and we’re glad to have gotten to take part in it.

Question for the Commentariat

How do you feel about a) those games being on New Years’ Eve instead of New Years Day or later and b) the CFP games not being the last bowl games of the season? What are your thoughts on fixing?

Merry Christmas, everyone! Our gift to you this Christmas Eve is a podcast! Because we love you and we’re here to entertain you while you travel, do your last minute shopping, or whatever. We podcast, you decide.

Mark returns to the podcast for a preview of the Russell Athletic Bowl, the Baylor Bears, the North Carolina Tar Heels, and everything involved therein. Before we get to the topics, though, I hope you notice that I put together a special introduction this week, paying homage to the most dynamic receiver in the country, Biletnikoff winner Corey Coleman. I had hoped to be able to do this after the bowl game and add in whatever scores he had against UNC, but sadly, that is not to be. So, I hope you enjoy it. Here’s what we’re talking about:

  • The injury situation to Jarrett Stidham, Shock Linwood, Coleman, and possibly Patrick Colbert
  • What this offense will look like without those players
  • Self-scouting and “conventional wisdom”
  • The Tar Heel defense, its strengths, weaknesses, and aggressive secondary
  • How often do we see the WildBear?
  • UNC’s offense and their weapons. Do they seem somewhat familiar to you?
  • The weather
  • Much more about the game
  • Briefly: Texas’ OC hire, A&M’s QB transfers, Kylo Ren’s decision to Transfer from Texas A&M
  • Overcast: a podcasting app for iOS

We hope you enjoy the podcast, and have a very Merry Christmas!

A loss is a loss. There’s no getting around that. But that doesn’t begin to sum up what happened on Saturday when the Bears played host to the Longhorns. Though the Longhorns were ultimately victorious, that second half was some of the most fun I’ve had watching football in quite a long time. Mark and I are back on the podcast to talk about that, the Playoff a bit, and more. Here’s what we’re talking about:

  • A measure of perspective on this season (we’ll do a full recap at some point)
  • Baylor lands in the Russell Athletic Bowl
  • The RAB Twitter account makes us excited about the bowl
  • The Texas Game
  • The halftime adjustments, and credit where it is due
  • Peter’s random halftime lunch experience
  • The defensive performance
  • We’d like more, please
  • The Big 12 OOC scheduling requirement
  • The Playoffs and New Years Six bowls (as well as the Alamo Bowl)
  • Rico Gathers (no, really)

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! Because of the holiday, we went ahead and recorded a podcast a day early, just like we promised that we would do! As teased on the last episode, BearsTruth’s Amy Pagitt makes her triumphant return to the podcast this week! Also, recording on a Tuesday night has the added benefit of bring right after the announcement of the College Football Playoff Rankings, so we’re talking about that a bit in this episode. Finally, some rankings to not send your blood pressure through the roof! That’s some good news. Let’s do this.

Here’s some of the stuff we’re talking about:

  • Gary Patterson’s strange logic behind his decision to go for 2 against OU
  • The College Football Playoff Rankings - hey, Baylor’s in a pretty decent spot!
  • TCU in Fort Worth on Friday
  • The Injuries
  • The Weather and which team an inclement weather game favors
  • The Revivalry
  • Reader Questions! Woohoo!
  • Picks of the week
  • Bristol Palin’s baby Sailor. Sorry, that should be “baby, Sailor.” She doesn’t have a baby sailor, though if anyone were to put an infant to work swabbing the decks, I guess it would be Bristol Palin. Anyway, don’t let this deter you from listening. We don’t really talk about it. Except for Amy.

Hope you enjoy this one! Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

HUGE victory in Stillwater, OK. The Bears stay alive in both the Big 12 title race and the national conversation. Mark's back this week, and we're talking all about the win, and more:

  • Art Briles as baker extraordinaire
  • All about the defense
  • Andrew Billings
  • Travon Blanchard
  • Shawn Oakman
  • Grant Campbell setting the tone
  • Some refereeing talk
  • All the rest
  • Jarrett Stidham and Chris Johnson both have stellar days, despite injuries
  • KD Cannon
  • All of the offense

Mark was indisposed on recording day, so Peter went solo for the podcast this week. There's a ton to talk about and another live show just wasn't in the cards. We've been putting off talking about OU long enough, so here you go.

Topics:

  • College GameDay
  • McLane Stadium Atmosphere AND FLYOVER
  • Oklahoma
  • CFP Rankings
  • ALL the injuries
  • Oklahoma State

There's a ton there, but given the fact that it's only Peter, "we" make short work of the podcast. If you have feedback, let me know, I'd love to hear it.

Mark and Peter returned to the live format to preview College GameDay, the BlackOUt game against Oklahoma, and take listener questions from the blog. PODCAST TIME!

I gotta tell you, this was a tough podcast to get up for. K-State was a challenging game and I mean no disrespect to the Wildcats or anyone associated with them… It’s just that the game was several days ago, and there’s been some massive shifting that’s taken place in the Big 12 (plus some great news about GameDay, etc.) since the game took place. That said, once we’re back in the swing of things, we’re rolling. Let’s get to it!

What are We Talking About?

These are mostly from memory because, like the true pro that I am, I forgot to jot down our topics as we covered them.

  • First things first, some big news in the world of recruiting dropped literally right before we started to record. We’re talking about that.
  • Recapping Kansas State
  • Stidham’s “underwhelming” (LOL) performance - goodness gracious he looked good
  • The game plan on both sides of the ball
  • The defensive performance and what we can take away from this
  • The rest of the Big 12 action
  • The College Football Playoff and the rankings: Both the good and the bad.
  • Oh yeah - COLLEGE GAMEDAY! Really, don’t do a 61–58 sign. Be better.
  • 5-Star Review Shoutouts!

Who do you want to be the College GameDay guest picker? Let us know in the comments.

As the shock of the injury to Seth Russell began to wear off and the reality that Jarrett Stidham was now the Bears quarterback for the foreseeable future, there seemed to emerge two threads on our new quarterback: 1) he’s a true freshman and people don’t think true freshman can’t take a team all the way and, 2) Stidham isn’t your average true freshman. He doesn’t think like a true freshman, act like a true freshman, or play like one. This comes from sources we tend to believe: The coaches and players. Instead of talking about the first, I feel that the why behind the second thread is far more interesting. What makes people gush with praise about him when he’s been on Baylor’s campus for less than a year?

I decided to turn to Greg Tepper, one of the state’s leading experts on high school football. He graciously agreed to return to the podcast to discuss Stid’s skillsets and what we can expect from the quarterback. And then we proceeded to talk about that and basically everything else, too.

Be forewarned: this podcast is long. Sorry. It’s also all over the place. How quickly it went off the rails (10 minutes before I hit the record button) can only be described as Isbearian. Expect a true cold open because we just got right to the discussions and I realized it was good audio, so I hit the record button. Anyway, here’s what we’re talking about:

  • The blog’s humble yet auspicious beginnings
  • Conference realignment (huh)
  • Dave Campbell pops up everywhere
  • Candy Corn (we had to)
  • Jarrett Stidham, his abilities, and what causes others to lavish him with praise at this stage
  • ACC vs. Big 12 Refs
  • Mark and Tepper talk more about how TCU & Baylor “are the same” - ready your emails and pitchforks
  • The Art Briles heel turn
  • International soccer… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • Television’s Greg Tepper
  • The Big 4 of the Big 12
  • GP’s end-of-game handshake with Dana Hologram

There’s a lot packed into this episode, folks. I hope you enjoy it.

Well, we’ve got some weather headed our way this weekend. The Cyclones! Iowa State is coming to town. Oh yeah, there’s also some really wild weather patterns that have done some stuff to our university’s plans for Homecoming. For the first time since 1936, Baylor has had to cancel many Homecoming festivities like the bonfire, the parade, and more. But don’t you worry! Pigskin is still a go. Also, the game. They’re playing this game, regardless of how much it’s raining. Get your ponchos ready!

The Podcast will not be impacted by weather! sorta.

  • Mark’s trip has been canceled due to Hurricane Patricia (which may or may not be the cause of the rain in Waco? We’ll call it a contributing factor). Sorry, all you aspiring ODB account tweeters.
  • There’s some rain headed our way, and it’s sogging up plans for Homecoming. A bummer, but the game must go on!
  • Canceling the bonfire and the parade makes us sad. It makes my wife and I sad because a 1 & 3 year old girls in their little cheerleader outfits at the Homecoming parade is SUPER ADORABLE.
  • This is the first Homecoming Parade since 1936 to be canceled. I’m pretty sure I said 1937 on the podcast.
  • Impact of the rain on the game: Will there or won’t there be?
  • Oh yeah: COMMENTARIAT PARTICIPATION ALERT (see details below)
  • Previewing the game and how it might play out
  • Your questions!
  • Picks of the week!

That’s what we’re talking about for the most part folks! Woohoo.

  • Ian McCaw Unblocked ODB on Twitter!
  • TCU fans vandalized the RGIII statue!
  • Jason Kirk wrote a hilarious, depressing, and true post!
  • We look at Kansas!

Well that was a good amount of fun, wasn’t it? After a day’s delay, Mark and I take to the airwaves once again to recap the Texas Tech game and all the wild events occurring in the Big 12 this past weekend. The Bears soundly defeated Texas Tech on Saturday in a win that has many of the pundits naming Baylor their new #1 team in the country. This is a reality that is, of course, terrifying for many Baylor fans (guys, it’s going to be okay). But we’re not talking about that so much! What exactly are we talking about? I’m glad you asked!

What we’re talking about

  • Taking the foot off the gas
  • Some quality defensive play that we’re happy with
  • Offensive efficiency
  • Corey Coleman: Is he the best WR in Baylor history?
  • Shock Linwood’s spectacular game
  • There’s more stuff in there
  • I can’t remember off the top of my head
  • Oh yeah!
  • Recapping the Big 12
  • Iowa State 38, Kansas 13
  • Oklahoma State 36, K-State 34
  • The Great Big 12 Officiating Debacle of October 3, 2015*
  • Oklahoma 44, West Virginia 24
  • TCU 50, Texas 7
  • A teensy bit about S&P+, but possibly more to come

*Last week we got called out in the comments to the podcast because we were apparently “whining” about the officiating without acknowledging that it’s a difficult job. We fully recognize that officiating is a thankless and incredibly difficult job. But, like any job, there can be excellence or incompetence performing it. While even the best and most prepared refs can miss calls here and there, what the Big 12 is dealing with is beyond the occasional missed call at this point.

Fun weekend! Even though we recorded on Monday night, we’re still planning on recording the Kansas preview on Wednesday night. Get your questions in now, folks. I’m sure there will be an incredible number of them.

What a week! We’ve got a TON to talk about on this week’s podcast, the final “combined” episode where we’ll both look back at what happened last week and look ahead to what’s coming on Saturday. Rejoice! More podcasts to come! Let’s get to it, shall we?

We’re leading off the show with an announcement. I’m teasing it here because we jump into it immediately.

What Else We’re Talking About

  • The Great Alan Eck Conspiracy of 2015. We’ve cracked it, folks.
  • The Rice game, one of the most impressive performances we’ve seen from Baylor Bears football in quite some time
  • Best performances of the day which weren’t Corey Coleman (because, c’mon): Taylor Young, Travon Blanchard, Shock Linwood, Shawn Oakman*
  • The Oakman sack/holding sequence: Go watch it
  • A bit about the TCU/Texas Tech game - but not a ton
  • Short, short look at WVU - they’re interesting, but they haven’t played on the road yet (and their road slate is brutal)
  • Previewing Texas Tech vs. Baylor
  • The Cloak & Dagger Injury Game with Kliff Kingsbury and Pat Mahomes
  • Differences between Mahomes and Davis Webb
  • An improved Tech rushing attack
  • Reduction in the typical Tech Achilles heels (can there be multiple Achilles heels? Whatever, they had them but they don’t this year)
  • Explanation of tackling issues from the early portions of the season
  • Art Briles gives us a fantastic quote. Just fantastic.
  • Picks of the Weeeeeeeeeek

Enjoy!

Thursday means podcast! Mark and I are back in business after a week off due to schedule conflicts and sheer exhaustion. With essentially two weeks worth of news there’s a lot to discuss, but we manage to get through it all and have a good bit of fun doing it. And oh yeah, it’s GAME WEEK again! We’re talking Bears vs. Owls and getting ready for that. Plus, Mark put out a call for questions and got some good ones worthy of discussion, so we’re getting to that.

Here’s what we’re talking about

  • Secret Service Call Signs!
  • Player dismissals!
  • Sidelinegate!
  • The next Friday news dump!
  • On losing and regaining edges!
  • Gary Patterson says silly things!
  • You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!

We’re also getting into the Rice game and the things that we’re looking forward to. We’re both excited for this game because it presents opportunities for improvement and breakout performances. Mark’s keen to see what the defense has cooked up for Saturday and how they respond after a couple of difficult first halves to games thus far. I’m all about that Seth Russell and what we can see from him.

Mark and Peter take to the airwaves once again to discuss Baylor Football, the Bears' performance against SMU, and a quick look ahead at what's to come against Lamar.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. Today marks the beginning of the FBS football season. The longest offseason in memory is finally over. Football is here, and at the time I write this, the Baylor Bears are just under 36 hours away from taking the field in their first game of the season. If there isn’t a twinkle in your eye and a spring in your step today, then I don’t know what I can do to help you. How about a podcast?

Our tradition has been to have Brian Ethridge join us for the annual season predictions show (tradition in that it happened in two out of two years prior to this one), but Brian was otherwise unavailable. Colt Barber, also of Bears Truth and 247 Sports, graciously agreed to join us and I’m thrilled he did. He was an excellent guest! In a surprise move, Prashanth Francis was also able to hop on and join us for the predictions show! I’m thrilled that he was, because a season predictions show wouldn’t be the same without him.

Given the constricted timeline to get this show out before the SMU game, we altered our normal multi-person recording, so I apologize for any loss of audio quality.

Season Predictions!

We’re talking our season predictions in this show. How do the Bears fare? Do they win the Big 12? Do they go to the playoff? Do I predict losses or do I revert to my tried-and-almost-true optimism? Does Prashanth finally predict that we make it to a bowl game? Find out by listening!

We also hit some other predictions and tackle some of the ones you listeners gave us. Thank you for those! If we didn’t get to yours, I apologize. We ran about an hour and a half on this one, and in the end Mark’s battery died right at the end.

A Thank You

Thank you all for listening to the podcast. If you enjoy the show, we’d love to interact with you throughout the season! Ask questions on Twitter, send us an email to either the main ODB email address or OurDailyPodcast (at) gmail (dot) com, or you can use the podcast voicemail line at (774) 257–4236. Also, leave us a 5-star review on iTunes and we’ll give you a shout-out on the podcast.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, if you like the work we’re doing, tell a friend! Help us grow the listenership of the show and bring in new listeners. It would be much appreciated!

Here it is, folks! A podcast! We’re finally talking about the defense this week, after a couple of weeks of delays and postponements. Given the events of the past couple of weeks, we felt it best to postpone recording at the time, and then life happened.

We take the first few minutes to discuss the conviction of Sam Ukwuachu and the brouhaha that immediately ensued. Don’t worry, we don’t spend long on it but given the fact that we were set to record this defense preview podcast the night of the conviction, it wouldn’t do to not discuss it in the slightest. At the time, we felt that it would be incredibly tone deaf to record a podcast previewing the defense, and I think that was the right call. Then, last week just got away from us. We tried to lay down some audio and again decided that everything was too fresh to record. BUT, we’re back and we’re ready to talk defense!

Before we get into it, we HAD to spend a couple minutes discussing the superb “appetizer” we had last weekend in North Dakota State vs. Montana. If you didn’t catch this game on Saturday, you missed a wildly entertaining football game full of twists, turns, offense, and healthy doses of both Brent Musbergerisms AND Jesse Palmerisms (hey guys how’s your cardio). A good time was had.

Now Let’s Talk Some Defense!

We’re starting off with the big question. Everyone wants to talk about the corners and safeties, but we’re looking at the issue in a more holistic manner, examining the question of pass defense as a whole. A successful pass defense combines more than just corners and safeties turning their head to the ball. It involves a concerted effort to pressure the quarterback by both the defensive line and linebackers, PLUS the coverage aspects that we’ve talked about ad nauseam this offseason.

Here’s what else we’re talking about:

  • 9 Starters Returning
  • Replacing Colin Brence and Bryce Hager
  • Grant Campbell being the “quarterback” of the defense
  • Congratulations to Mark on the arrival of his third child! (aside)
  • Babysitting qualities of Shawn Oakman
  • Defensive Line… Best in the Big 12? Best in the country??
  • Creating pressure with the front line versus specific blitzes
  • Taylor Young and his growth
  • Position Battles
  • Breaking down the Safeties and a terminology question that I had
  • Cornerbacks - all 79 of them (not really, but almost)
  • Impact of Coach Cris Dishman on the entire secondary
  • Your questions! Schemes and other fun stuff

Scheduling Note

We are still planning on doing another podcast this week. We’re most likely going to record on Wednesday night and I’ll do my best to get it out as fast as possible on Thursday morning. Instead of being a deep preview of the SMU matchup, we’re going to do our annual Predictions Show, so I’ll be putting out a call on Twitter and probably in the DBR for things you want to hear predictions about. No word as of yet who guests will be, if any. Stay tuned.

It's been about three weeks since we last brought you a podcast. Of course, we'd just come off a monstrous win at Morgantown, then dropped two straight to Kansas and Oklahoma State. Naturally, the podcast was blamed for this outcome. BUT, then the Bears ripped off four straight wins before dropping Monday's game against Texas. You can't blame us for that one. But, this is our solemn vow to you: If we lose on Friday night, we will never, ever do another basketball podcast.

Here's what we're talking about

Recap of the past few weeks

The historic win in Ames

Another dominating performance against West Virginia

A bit about Texas and that throwdown.

Looking forward to Texas Tech, the rest of the weekend, and what those games mean for the Big 12 Tournament seeding.

We're back with another episode! Fankhauser rejoins us this week in the wake of National Signing Day and one of the most dominant road wins of the Scott Drew era. Fank's going to be a regular fixture on the podcast for the remainder of basketball season, and we're thrilled to have him

Aftermath of National Signing Day

We're talking about the aftermath of National Signing Day, recognizing just how absurd the "event" has gotten, fully realizing that we are part of the problem, but that there's nothing much to be done about it. Plus, Mike Gundy threw gas on the whole don't-tweet-at-recruits fire last week when he said the following:

This year, people are back to flipping. There were a lot of guys changing their minds and changing schools. I think the reason for that is because of the internet...I think the fans play a role in that, because they can contact the recruits. I think they’re a huge impact in recruiting now, whether we as coaches (believe that or not). These fans who are contacting these players can affect the way they think. You never know why kids do what they do, but I’m convinced, in some of the ones we were involved in this year, they were affected be people who contacted them on their Twitter account.

(hit that link for the full quote) Yeahhhhh... Probably not the best way to shut that down. Every fan base thinks that theirs is the only team that does things right and everyone else cheats or is the shadiest team ever.

We talk about it briefly, but I must say that for the most part, I was pleased with how the majority of Baylor fans handled themselves this recruiting cycle, most significantly with Chad President in the wake of Jarrett Stidham committing and his moving to Tulsa. Baylor fans were largely supportive, and the combination of Coach Phil Montgomery and President at Tulsa means the Golden Hurricane won quite a few new fans in Baylor supporters.

Next we're talking about the coaching carousel and its relationship to National Signing Day. This is an interesting point Mark brings up that is fascinating and I won't spoil it, but it's an interesting problem, and we think that there's a fairly easy solution that won't ever happen. Give it a listen. I will say this... A global Bobby Petrino clause is something sorely needed.

Basketball Time!

The past few weeks have completely altered the expectations and outlook of this team. While the Bears have been incredible at home (Fank points out that a one-point loss to Kansas at home is all that is between us and an 18-game winning streak at home), they've struggled on the road until the past couple of weeks, culminating with Saturday's dominant win over West Virginia in Morgantown. Baylor was able to get past the Mountaineer full court press, controlling the game and preventing West Virginia from ever closing the lead to less than 14 points. Every time the Mountaineers looked like they might make a run and make the game tighter, the Bears were able to answer and rebuild the lead.

Part of what has been so impressive about this season has been the defense. Scott Drew teams have always been knocked for their lack of defense, but it seems like this squad's foundation is the defense, and the offense is only really starting to mature at this stage of the season. That's gone a good bit of distance to silencing the Scott Drew critics. Plus, this latest win is another testament to his coaching, since the only way you beat a full-game full court press like the one WVU employs is through superior coaching. It's been most impressive. Since the run last spring, the Drew detractors are becoming quieter and quieter. We here at ODB are enormous supporters of Scott Drew and hope he stays as long as he can. It is known.

What's more, this team seems to be gelling as a squad and truly operating as a team, not relying on one star for the majority of its buckets. There isn't a player that we look at and say "As Player X goes, so goes the team." That is very exciting to watch. We do talk about the development of Taurean Prince as well as the absolutely dominant season Rico Gathers is putting up on the boards. My favorite stat: Gathers has 287 rebounds in 29.1 minutes/game, coming out to 17.1 rebounds per 40 minutes. That's a pretty decent clip.

Tonight the Bears play Oklahoma State at the Ferrell. GO. GO TO THIS GAME. Thanks. That is all.

Almost. Mark has a special message towards the end.

First things first: Lewis Franklin (brolewis here and on Twitter) and I laid this audio down in the wake of the Texas game nearly two weeks ago. I apologize for that. I was intending to try and edit it while out on vacation, but I underestimated the amount of time and energy I'd have while being active all day and then tending to two children under the age of 4 afterwards. Right after getting home last weekend I was waylaid by illness, so I didn't get to finish editing until today. I'm sorry about that.

At any rate, Lewis was kind enough to join me on the podcast to talk a little bit about the Baylor Women's basketball team, their recent successes, the expectations of this team both heading into the season and where they stand right now. Despite losing two of the most prolific players in the game in consecutive seasons, the women currently sit atop the Big 12 with an 18-1 record and are the #3 ranked team in the nation by both polls.

A huge thanks to Brother Lewis for doing this, our very first podcast dedicated to Women's Basketball! I'm thinking we'll probably do another one as the NCAA tournament approaches, so be on the lookout for that!

Feedback Appreciated!

With football offseason in full swing, we'll most likely be ramping up some Basketball podcasts in the coming weeks to get you ready for the end of the Big 12 season, the Big 12 Tournament, and the NCAA tournament. Like I said, we'll probably do another podcast dedicated to the women also. National Signing Day is this week, so I imagine that Mark, Prashanth and I will break that down at some point. Spring football will provide some topics, but if there's anything Baylor-related that you'd like to see on the podcast, I'd greatly appreciate your suggestions. The offseason is dark and full of terrors, but we're striving to get you through it and keep your ears entertained throughout. If you have suggestions, please leave them in the comments, tweet them to me, or leave me feedback at OurDailyPodcast(at)gmail(dot)com. Thanks folks!

Well, we're back. It didn't quite take us a month to get back to podcasting after the Cotton Bowl, thank goodness. Truthfully, schedule conflicts ended up being the issue more than the "hangover" from the Cotton Bowl. But we're back now, and we're ready to bring some joy back to your ear holes.

Cotton Bowl Aftermath

Before you turn off the podcast, were NOT doing a full recap of the game. We're not going to be Debbie Downers. We're actually talking about some of our favorite moments. You shouldn't be afraid to listen to this part. If the loss still stings, take a listen. We're surprisingly upbeat about what happened in the game. Kendal Briles is going to be a great OC and fantastic play caller. K.D. Cannon had an otherworldly game against a fantastic defensive back. Jay Lee throwing a fantastic WR pass for a touchdown. Bryce Petty having an absolute gem of a game and setting a Cotton Bowl Record. There was plenty of really fun stuff that happened in that game, despite the outcome, and it's worth celebrating. This is out of order, but it's so good that it has to go last in this paragraph, and two words will sum it up. LaQuan McGowan. That is all.

Plus, the aftermath hasn't produced the narratives about how far off we are that we expected after that loss. That's very good news, and should be cause for optimism. There hasn't been a Preseason poll released where Baylor's not at least Top 7 at this point. While most consider the "way-too-early" preseason polls as meaningless (and for what to expect from a team, they generally are), they do tell you how your program is viewed, and Baylor is rising in the estimation of most folks. That's very exciting.

Cris Dishman Hire & Coaching Changes

We're also talking about the hire of Cris Dishman as the Safeties Coach who will replace Brian Norwood. We're all very excited about the hire... He's got NFL chops, which is something new for our defensive staff,  and we're all looking forward to seeing what he can do. If you haven't been paying attention the past few days, it appears that they're already putting him out on the recruiting trail and is making an immediate impact in that arena. It's very exciting to see.

We also talk a bit about Kendal Briles' move to OC and play caller, and the fact that we were so wrong about trick plays in the Cotton Bowl. We're happy to be wrong there, because that was fun.

Aside: Thank God that Chris Callahan is still alive.

Recruiting Updates

We're in the home stretch of the 2015 Recruiting Class Season with National Signing Day, so we're looking into what's left to pursue, plus we're looking at some of recruits that have committed to Baylor in the past couple of weeks. Buckle up, folks, it's going to be a very wild ride. Specifically, we're spending some time on Eric Ogor, his ability, and why it appears that he's been lightly recruited. If he adapts to the collegiate level, the Bears could have a real gem there. And he's got one of the best names in recent memory.

Yeah, we go back into the 3-star vs. 4/5-star debate.

There's more talk here, and Pras asks the most speculative question you've ever heard on the podcast.

Zomg Basketball

We sorta trip over ourselves into some basketball talk. I will say this. We. Love. Scott Drew. There's more basketball coming on the podcast! Very exciting!

It's time. It's almost here. The 2015 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic is almost upon us, and we're ready to talk about it! Mark, Peter and (eventually) Prashanth put their heads together to preview this massive game, which just might be, once again, the biggest game in Baylor Football history. Prashanth joins us a few minutes late because of a certification exam or something that he had to take. But he's bringing his usual brand of analytical genius, and the podcast is better for it.

Here's what we're talking about!

  • The Big 12 had a very bad day. A very. Bad. Day.
  • Strange bowl scheduling preferences
  • The issue of motivation in Bowl games. Who's primed for a statement? Who's primed for a letdown?
  • Michigan State is a really good football team and how that impacts readiness and preparation
  • Michigan State's motivations
  • Does Narduzzi taking the Pitt job have any impact on the Spartans defense? What about Montgomery and the Baylor offense?

Pras Joins Us At Long Last

  • Pras is excited about actually getting to go to a game. He got crazy good seats for on the cheap. Peter does not have club seats. Mark does not have seats and that is sad.
  • We go off the rails for just a bit here. Sorry we're not sorry. Also: Live updates from the Texas game! Oh wait... We didn't broadcast this live.
  • Rehashing some of the bowl stuff with Prashanth, because he has great takes and we love him.
  • Bowls as litmus tests for conference strength and statement of future success

Hey Look, We're Talking About The Cotton Bowl!

  • The fascinating statistical oddity that is the Michigan State passing attack - how do we shut down Conner Cook and Tony Lippett?
  • Michigan State's rushing attack with Jeremy Langford and how our defensive line will fare against it
  • Is the Baylor defensive line the best that Michigan State has seen this season?*
  • Mark's key matchup: Our offense against their defense
  • Kendal Briles elevated to the Offensive Coordinator and calling the plays - does that impact anything?
  • Direct Message to Blake Lynch
  • How much do we want to see Antwan Goodley targeted?
  • Who is the Spartans' No. 2 cornerback?
  • Last game of the year, Brent, can't hold anything back
  • Much, much more.
*According the FootballOutsiders.com Defensive Line Stats, it's between Penn State and Baylor, with a slight edge to the Nittany Lions.

Since the recording of this podcast, there's been some sad news in that Baylor Football lost a commit in Chad President. He'd been committed for almost a couple of years now, and we at Our Daily Bears are sad to see him go. We recorded this podcast about 16 hours too early, it would appear, but we were ready to get some audio laid down for you guys about some of the other happenings from recent days, plus get you some audio for your Christmas Eve travels, should you require it.

One note about the audio: For some reason unknown to any of us, Mark's audio track had some clipping in it that makes it sound like I've edited out a word or two in a sloppy manner. We're not really sure what happened, but rest assured that it wasn't that Mark was overly vulgar and I was going crazy with the editing tools.

What We're Talking About

  • Jarrett Stidham committed to Baylor, and we're thrilled about it
  • Possible scenarios with the quarterback situation (note: At one point in here Pras talks about being sad that someone in this group may not get to finish their Baylor experience; I was editing that portion of the show as the President news broke, and it struck me as prescient.)
  • The aftermath and dark underbelly of recruiting fandom
  • The great day the Big 12 had
  • What's at stake with recruiting and how to respond to it
  • The importance of high-value targets
  • There's still more to come before National Signing Day.

Let's Recap The Regular Season! ...sorta

  • Prashanth's preseason prediction regarding Petty being a better QB overall, though not reflected on the stat sheet
  • Did we see peak Goodley this season? Was he injured?
  • Coleman's season vs. what we were expecting to see, especially in light of his preseason hamstring injury
  • Offensive Line: The big surprise of the season, especially in light of the injuries experienced
  • Looking back to look forward, plus some more recruiting talk!
  • The "5-star vs. diamond-in-the-rough" debate
  • Disappointments of the season (note: we went 11-1 and won our second straight Big 12 Championship. Any actual disappointment is extremely minor)
  • Taylor Young is a sneaky blitzer
  • The future, friends, is very bright. Whatever Shawn Oakman and Spencer Drango decide.

In case you haven't heard, ESPN College GameDay is coming to Waco on Saturday for the tilt against Kansas State. You know we're talking about that, and we do quite a bit to start. Mark, Prashanth and I are here to do just that as well as talk about surviving Texas Tech in Arlington over the weekend. Here's what we're talking about:

College GameDay heading to Waco! And related topics

  • The most on-the-nose cold open ever.
  • Our reaction to the news, including outlook on how it affected our moods in the aftermath of the Tech game
  • Note: Pras cut out at one point in here, but the way we record allowed me to salvage the point he makes. I left it in, then shifted to the conversation Mark and I had while he was gone. You may notice a somewhat abrupt conversation change from a conversation perspective.
  • The rankings and our feelings towards them this week
  • NOTE: Let's not go crazy with our engagement of the media this
  • Signs, Signs, everywhere signs (more on that in a bit) - We're discussing the 61-58 sign and its prevalence.

Recapping Texas Tech

  • The tale of two games: With and without Bryce Petty and how his injury impacted both sides of the ball
  • Tech was able to find matchups to exploit
  • Resurfacing of the three-man front and the lack of designed blitz packages
  • In which aspect of our offense/defense are we most confident
  • "It's Tech's Bowl Game!" and how that actually impacted the play of the game
  • Ryan Reid and his amazing forced turnover
  • More Big 12 Ref fun and Rod Gilmore
  • The two respective hits on the QBs
  • Bryce Petty's injury and his status moving forward

Backing up... GameDay Signs!

We talked about it in the podcast, but someone mentioned that they're going to put up a fanpost for GameDay sign ideas. Since we're going to be doing a live preview show on Thursday night, we'll talk about those sign ideas, pick the best, and maybe put up a poll so that you can vote on the best ones. Bears, bring the wit. Let's do this big.

NOTE: This was recorded on Sunday night, but work prevented me from getting the podcast compiled and edited. Sorry about that. We're opening up by talking about the ridiculous weather during the game on Saturday night which, if you weren't there, was significantly worse than it appeared on TV. It rained intermittently during the first half and started truly raining right before half time and didn't stop raining for the rest of the game. The rain got heavier as the game went on. Pras was able to stay dry by watching the game from his couch. Mark and his wife got amazing rain suits that kept them dry, while I had more trouble because my $4 poncho ripped and the sole of my right boot fell off at about the first touchdown. That's right... Fell. Off. It was weird.

Here's some of the topics we're talking about in this one:

  • How the weather impacted the play on the field
  • Mason Rudolph's performance (kid can ball out, y'all)
  • Defensive game plan and execution against a new quarterback
  • The lack of a conspiracy in the media to keep Baylor out of the conversation*
  • Once again, it's not the holding of the Selection Committee, it's the reasoning that bothers us
  • Mark and I have trouble differentiating between Indiana and Illinois
  • THERE IS A GIANT FOOT TRYING TO SQUASH YOU
  • I have a theory about what criteria the Selection Committee will use this week (I was wrong, but I think my theory makes more sense than what they actually used)
  • Ryan Reid
  • The best passing defense Baylor's beaten this year
  • The true source of Auburn's run of luck last year and FSU's this year
  • More!

Happy Premise Number 1: There are no aliens.
Happy Premise Number 2: There is no giant foot trying to squash me.
Happy Premise Number 3: Even though I feel like I might ignite, I probably won't.
-Eddie Murphy in Bowfinger

I'm not so sure about HP#1... Jeff Long may just be an alien. HP#2 is absolutely false. But, HP#3... that one's pretty true. The entire Baylor fan base probably feels like they'll ignite right about now.

Oh my goodness, it's our second episode in a row with everybody being in their normal recording locations! It must be some kind of record or something! Or... not. Anyway, it's a good thing when we're all in our natural habitats. And we're pumped to talk about this week's massive game on the road against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

First Things First

In case you haven't been paying close attention for the past two years, you don't know that your Baylor Bears have a massive, and I mean MASSIVE, rivalry with West Virginia. Back in August, those well-known college football experts and historians at Southern Living Magazine asked their readers to tell them what their favorite college football rivalry was. Was it the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn? Clemson vs. South Carolina? Florida vs. Florida State? Or Baylor vs. West Virginia? We at ODB agreed with Southern Living, and asked you, dear ODB Commentariat, to vote on which game in this rich, storied rivalry was your favorite. Nearly 200 of you responded by choosing from a vast array of two choices, electing the 2013 clash of these rivals as your favorite. We couldn't agree more.

News Team, Assemble!

Don't you love the News Team? We do, and it's been FAR too long since we trotted it out. Anyway, we're talking about the #StripeMcLane effort for Homecoming against Kansas and our excitement about it, as well as the Blackout against Oklahoma State on November 22. We've talked about it already on the blog, but we can't help ourselves, this is going to be really cool. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors. These are exciting things, people. Once more, because it's worth getting that image out again, here's the #StripeMcLane layout:

stripe-mclane.0.jpg

Next up we're talking about the Student Bus packages for the game against the Oklahoma Sooners in November that students waited in line for over four hours to get these passes, and they sold out in a little over 1 hour 20 minutes. That's pretty impressive. We're talking about what it says that the students snatched up all of those bus passes in that amount of time in the context of building a big time program and football culture at Baylor. If you're a student and you weren't fortunate enough to get a ticket, you can still make the trip with your friends in your own vehicle. The more the merrier! We also segue a little bit into the level of excitement of the fan base as a whole, and we all agree: there's not a more excited fan base in the state of Texas right now (thank you, football team, for beating TCU and enabling us to say that).

Previewing West Virginia

We're breaking down this matchup in all sorts of interesting ways. Many of you have commented on it, and we concur: the single best way to slow down the West Virginia offense is to get to Clint Trickett early and often. If Shawn Oakman and the rest of the pass rushers can harry Trickett frequently in the early goings of this game, it's probable that he'll get off his game and won't be accurate in getting the ball to the man that is clearly their best player in Kevin White. We're also giving tremendous respect to Head Coach Dana Holgorsen because the man knows his stuff. We think that they'll try and counter that pressure by getting the ball out of Trickett's hands quickly and into the hands of their WRs and RBs (which they use in the passing game more frequently than Baylor does theirs, as Mark mentioned in the First Look post). Trickett is pretty good at doing that so it will be interesting to see how they do.

Another key will be solid, fundamental tackling. For the perceived challenges in the secondary, Ryan Reid and Xavien Howard have been excellent in not giving up a ton of yards after the catch with solid fundamentals in tackling.

BUT WAIT: This West Virginia team may be the best roster in terms of guys with excellent names. Rushel Shell. Wendell Smallwood, point guard for Hickory High School. Dreamius Smith. DaeJuan Funderburk. Dontrill Hyman. The list goes on.

We realize that we didn't talk in great detail about our offense vs. their defense, but we got a bit of talk in there about it. We just had to move on for time purposes.

Picks of the Week

I'll fill these in at some point quick.

Community Feedback!

Thanks for sending in those questions, all you who did. With an open date looming after West Virginia, you can bet that we'll be reaching out to you all for more questions in the next week or so. #34 - OurDailyPodcast: The Sweet Sixteen

The podcast couldn’t miss the opportunity to talk about this magical time of year. Peter is joined by Matt Isbear and Fankhauser to weigh in on all things March Madnessy. As you may or may not know, Mark was on Radio Wisconsin on Monday, so he was all audio’ed out by the time we recorded this. I looked for audio from it to link to the stream, but apparently the Wisconsin radio station recorded every hour of the show save the one in which Mark participated. Curses!

Apologies for not getting this out quicker than today. Work exploded in my face yesterday and I got home last night and collapsed in a heap of complete and utter uselessness. Hopefully you’re able to enjoy the pod in advance of tomorrow’s excitement.

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year?

Matt and David agree: This is the best time of the year from a sporting perspective. I can’t say that I fully disagree from a compacted, intensity point of view, but am a little more hesitant. What say you? Is this the most wonderful time of the year for sports? Talk about it in the contents.

Tournament Talk!

David, Matt, and I share our thoughts on the most surprising aspects of the tournament so far. There’s been a LOT of upsets this yea, but is that any different than any other year? Regardless, it’s made the tournament extremely exciting thus far. We also talk a bit about Baylor’s matchup vs. Nebraska, the crowd, the defense, and more.

Baylor Crushes Creighton

Baylor handles Creighton and its star performer, Doug McDermott in a massive way. Could there be a more perfectly executed game plan? We talk all about it. I could write about what we talked about, but then I’d leave you no reason to listen to the podcast.

Wisconsin

Of course, we talk more about Wisconsin to help prepare you for our Sweet Sixteen Matchup on Thursday. Get pumped.

Community Feedback!

MattyMattMatt put out the call on Twitter right before we recorded, and you all responded. We answer your questions and apologize to TinyArtBriles. Conner asks one of the more awkward questions the podcast has ever had. Also, Matt doesn’t want to put the horse before the cart. Matt likes his carts going first, dang it.

Greetings ladies and gentlemen. In lieu of recording something extra on Christmas night, the intrepid Mattisbear took the initiative and sat down with Matt Sayman earlier this week. Matt is a Baylor alum and author of The Leftovers: Basketball, Baylor, Betrayal and Beyond. He was one of the few to stick around when Coach Scott Drew came to Baylor and started this incredible run.

Matt sat down with... Matt for about half an hour of basketball talk. They cover the book and the events surrounding the coaching transition, adjusting to Coach Scott Drew's style, this year's team and an appearance he'll be making at an upcoming Baylor basketball game on January 11. You definitely don't want to miss this.

If you haven't picked it up yet, The Leftovers is available on his website, theleftoversbook.comAmazon, or Barnes & Noble. Definitely check it out, it's a great read and you'll fly through it. It would make a great late Christmas present!

No clever title this week, just the white hot truth: The Baylor Bears are Big 12 Champs.

That's right folks. It's finally edited. You watched it live, now listen to it… edited. Between uploading issues, show derailments and dog talk, this may have been the most difficult episode to edit. But it's done, and now ready for your enjoyment. Join Mark, Prashanth, Amy Pagitt and Peter (again) as we exult in the triumph of the Baylor Bears over the Texas Longhorns to clinch the first-ever Big 12 Championship and trip to a BCS Bowl Game. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll probably shake your head in disgust. It's all good.

If you missed the original recording and have a deep, burning desire (you should probably get that checked out) to watch it again, you can check it out right here. Then you can come back and listen to the edited show. It's about a whole 15 minutes shorter! Wow!

News Team, Assemble (live version)!

THE BAYLOR BEARS ARE BIG 12 CHAMPIONS AND ARE GOING TO THE FIESTA BOWL. Is there anything else that's really newsworthy? I guess maybe one or two things. But THE BAYLOR BEARS ARE BIG 12 CHAMPIONS! (It's still really fun to type)

Texas Recap

Dominating performance by the defense, the offense wakes up, KJ gets a pick-six negated by a stupid, stupid call (as well as having another possible INT bounce off the back of his helmet. DOINK.), and much, much more. We get a little sidetracked, too. But that's not really anything new.

Picks of the Week

Prashanth is the man. Peter did pretty well, too. So did Mark. Amy picked Duke. Heh heh heh. Oh Amy.

Bear Droppings

You know the drill. It's calls. And you can still call That Good Ol' Baylor Phone Line! Do it!

Greetings, fellow ODBers. This may surprise and even delight you, but it's time for another episode of OurDailyPodcast. Please, contain your joy. Or don't, either way is fine by me. As long as your unrestrained joy is at minimum decibel levels. We can't have you going into the game on Saturday with even the hint of hoarseness. You're going to need your voice all day long.

Before we get to the show notes, I want to make a special request that's also in the photo caption. Can we make sure that Fringe Monster is saved a spot on the front row of the stands after running the field? Fringe Monster certainly deserves to be front and center. Fringe Monster has become somewhat of a talisman, I feel. Let's make this happen, good people of Our Daily Bears.

On to the Show Notes!

News Team Assemble!

You all know this, but students CRUSHED the ticket draw in less than 48 hours. It's a little sad that so many students won't be able to get into the game, but you have to remember that the South Endzone was sold out months ago. There will be onsite watch parties happening, so maybe there will be some way that some magic can happen.

Don't forget about The Official ODB Meetup! Check out the link for the details and location. It's going to be fun. Can somebody bring name tags?

A little bit of Podcast news! Amy Pagitt will join us Sunday for a special episode. Listen to the pod for more details!

Let's Talk Texas

And I'm not talking about the state. We can all agree that the state of Texas is the greatest state. No, we're talking about the big game this weekend, and everything you could possibly want to know about it! Offense! Defense! Weather! HOW WILL TEXAS BE ABLE TO STAND THIS WEATHER WHEN THEY'RE SO FAR SOUTH OF WACO AND COMPLETELY NOT USED TO PLAYING IN THESE CONDITIONS LIKE THE BEARS ARE? These are the burning questions that we struggle with and attempt, to the best of our ability, to answer.

Picks of the Week!

Lots of picks of the week this week, though only two Big 12 slate games Since Lil' Amy P is going to be joining us on Sunday, her picks are included!

Special Audio!

In honor of the very last game played at The Case and the last regular season preview episode for football season, I put together a little audio segment with the help of some of the friends of ODP*. I hope you enjoy it. Oh yeah, it also did produce the Google Voice Transcript of the Week, too:

MattisBear: Hey guys, It's Matt, is there trying on working and I faxed in on Saturday. I don't see how we lose this one with emotion, implications on. And Don't go to work on longhorns. I said, we went by. 3 touchdowns and potentially wanted to feel well, one top of that give us and 4521 way fingers.

*Kirobaito also sent in his prediction as yet another esteemed guest of the show; sadly, something happened with his audio message and his prediction cut out completely; I didn't realize it until it was too late to get him to resend his prediction. Sorry about that Kirobaito! Know that you are loved and appreciated all the same.

Questions for ODBers

Given my focus on getting the audio segment together and asking you guys to call in with your predictions, I completely forgot to ask for No Huddles and Community Feedback questions until very late. We did get a couple of questions, though, so we decided to pose them to you here!

From @BaylorRising: Is the reason we are projected to not get an at large bid because of  size, recentness of loss or brand?

From @JohnJayMJr: I'm curious about other BU fans interactions w/ UT fans so far this week/year. So far for me, they've been incredibly nice & respectful. What about everyone else?

Also, don't forget to stay tuned after the show for the predictions and calls of those who lent their voices to our efforts! To all who called That Good Ol' Baylor Phone Line, thank you very much!

Greetings, friends, we're back in action a day later than normal but putting our signature spin on the weekend's events! Prashanth, Mark, and I are all back this week to talk some TCU recap, amazeballs student fan ticket draw, recap Peter's horrific odds laying skills in Picks of the week, listen to your Bear Droppings (in record numbers!), and much much more.

News & Notes

  • Bryce Petty Commits to Baylor! Oh wait, that doesn't sound right. Bryce Petty is coming back for his Senior Season! There, that's better.
  • 6700+ student tickets were pulled in the first 7 hours that the tickets were made available. Students are TURNT!
  • Gary Patterson said something about somebody, I think. We talk a little bit about that. (Bonus points for who can identify the drop I use in this segment)

TCU Recap

Lots of fun here. As hard as that game was to watch, there are really good points to take away from the game, and there are many positives to look at heading into Texas on Saturday.

Picks of the Week

Mark: 5-2
Fank: 3-4
Prashanth: 3-4
Peter: 2-5

Bear Droppings!

Some seriously good calls this week, and in record number yet again! Thanks for sending those in. Remember, call That Good Ol' Baylor Phone Line at (774) 25-SICEM (257-4236) to leave us your questions, feedback, and Bear Droppings! Save that number to your phone. Then call us from The Case on Saturday. Or immediately thereafter, if you don't freeze. You know, it's all good.

SPECIAL REQUEST!

Since we are getting this show out a day later than normal, I'm going to go ahead and give my special request today so that you have a full 24 hours to respond. Here's what I'd like you to do:

Between now and tomorrow afternoon, call That Good Ol' Baylor Phone Line at (774) 25-SICEM and leave us your game predictions on the line! Identify yourself (your name or your ODB screen name, or twitter, any of the above would work fine), give your prediction for the game and what bowl you want to see the Bears in (that's attainable). If you want to add in a clever prediction or something witty, that's fine too, but make sure to predict the game and the bowl.

Can you guys do that for me? If enough call in and do that, I'll append your predictions onto the end of the show. If someone nails the score correctly, we might see about doing something fun. Thanks!

News & Notes

There was some news, I'm pretty sure. I can't remember.

TCU Preview

We talk about TCU a bit, too. We talk about other stuff in this segment, but I'm pretty sure mostly it's all about TCU.

Picks of the Week (picks of the weeeeeeek)

Picks. Picks of the week. There are extra games in there, but I didn't bother to write them down. I'm a horrible person.

Community Feedback

We got to most of the questions you sent us, but not all of them. Sorry about that. We went kinda long, almost two hours of raw audio (which I got down to about an hour fifteen or so). You'll know what I'm talking about.

Greetings, my friends. Relax, take a load off, and gather 'round your favorite podcast listening device of choice. Four friends gathered one fateful Wednesday night to record a podcast known as OurDailyPodcast. As Amy, David, Mark, and Peter sat down to share their thoughts on all things Baylor, they did not expect or imagine what was about to happen. What ensued over the next two hours was equal parts hilarity and terrifying. The name of Texas Tech was invoked. Offense and defense was confused regularly. The simplest of names was mispronounced. It was a dumpster fire of epic proportions. Yet, from the ashes, a podcast episode arose. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you that podcast.

News & Notes

We've experienced ALL of the injuries! Oh noes!

Oklahoma State Preview

Contrary to what Peter may say (many, many times), this is not the Texas Tech preview week. It's the Oklahoma State preview. We're here to calm your fears. Or maybe exacerbate them. I'm not entirely sure.

No Huddle

A very good set of No Huddle questions (thanks to you, loyal listener) is immediately driven right into a ditch. Also, this is for Amy and anyone else who hasn't read it: Meet BEEFTANK, the Jaguars' 400-pound quarterback. Also this: Jaguars 42, Broncos 0: The return of BEEFTANK

Picks of the Week (picks of the weeeeeeek)

Here are your picks! Reminder: these are for entertainment purposes only.

  • (Fank, Mark) Aggy @ LSU (-4.5)(Amy, Peter)
  • OU @ K-State (-4.5) (Unanimous)
  • Kansas @ Iowa State (-5) (Unanimous)
  • (Peter, Amy, Mark) (-9.5) Baylor @ Oklahoma State (Fank)

Community Feedback

First off, let me say that you guys are AWESOME. You came out of the woodwork and put together an impressive list of signs. You even created a fan post about it. If you haven't clicked over to it, you should do so now! We weren't able to get to all of the suggested GameDay signs, but we did give you several of our favorites. Plus, we're putting our favorites to a vote! Plus, I still want to hear more sign options in the comments, so keep sharing!

oso.johnny's sign:

pbpope's sign:

Greetings, everyone! It's time for another episode of OurDailyPodcast. This week the co-host of The Solid Verbal podcast, Ty Hildenbrandt, joins us to talk about the BlackOUt and much, much more. Ty is a HUGE friend of the show, providing a lot of behind-the-scenes assistance, advice, and support as we worked to get the show off the ground and build a following. His friendship has been absolutely invaluable to us, and we're thrilled that he could join us for an hour (or a little more)! Without further ado, here are the show notes!

Oklahoma Blacked Out!

We jump right into the action this week with discussion of Baylor's 41-12 victory over OU. Ty takes his medicine.

Picks of the Week

With the exception of our game, Ty's the man at picking. He got all of the games right. Except ours. Which I tried to convince him why we would cover… He just wouldn't listen. That's too bad.

Bear Droppings! and Community Feedback

We only had two calls on That Good Ol' Baylor Phone Line, which is pretty much our fault. We didn't send out any requests until way late for calls, so you guys didn't have a reminder. But go ahead and save this number into your phones so that you can remember for next week: (774) 25-SICEM (257-4236). Then set yourself a reminder for like 9:30 or 10 pm Saturday. Then you won't forget!

BLACKOUT TIME! We're excited. This is raw audio for the most part as you'll notice in the first couple of minutes, folks, since we're doing such a quick turnaround to get it out to you, but it still works. It's long, but would you expect anything different from us? Enjoy it on your way to the game! Enjoy it at the game! But do not enjoy it during the game. Enjoy the game itself.

News & Notes

It's a sellout, and a tarp-off, and 10,500 students pulled tickets. It's going to be amazing. Is it possible for a fan base to be too turnt up? I don't think so. Podcast side note: Ty Hildenbrandt will join us on Sunday night to recap the OU game!

Oklahoma Preview

Important things are discussed here that have an impact on the lives of many.

No Huddle

We put out the call, and you guys answered. A great round of questions, folks. Thanks. Also: the results of the No Huddle question I asked on Twitter. You all agree that we'll break the record. ALSO: Who do you think should play the villain coach to Art Briles' hero coach in the Hollywood movie?

Picks of the Week

For entertainment purposes only, here are the picks of the week. I'll update these notes at some point.

Community Feedback!

Thanks for sending in your questions! Great stuff.

Apologies for this going up a day later than anticipated and promised. Events have conspired against me in the podcasting world, friends. What began as your typical busy Monday (with the added intensity of trying to prepare for being gone this Thursday afternoon) quickly turned more stressful when we discovered a water leak at the house out of which we just moved. With closing scheduled for Wednesday, it's made for quite a bit of scrambling, stress, and strain on the pocketbook. As you can imagine, getting the podcast out to you took a bit of a back seat. Thanks for your patience.

Weird show notes this week to go with a sort of weird show. The move last weekend left me somewhat unprepared and out of sorts (since I had to find a new recording locale) and slower Internet really threw off my game. Couple all of this with an open date that didn't have that many story lines and presto! You've got yourselves a disorganized podcast! BUT enough of the sad trombone complaining! WE HAVE AMY PAGITT ON THE PODCAST!

If you don't know Amy and you're on Twitter, you're doing Twitter wrong. Amy is a rabid Baylor sports fan whose passion rivals (and possibly exceeds) our own, but her sharp wit and sassy commentary make her an absolute must-follow. She joins us this week for talk about the picks of the week, Baylor's rankings, Clint Trickett's dreaminess, and much, much more. I could tell you more about it, but why ruin the surprise? Come join us for some serious scattershooting fun.

It's a Friday with no Baylor game to look forward to tomorrow. I'm not sure there's a more depressing thought. Let not your hearts be troubled, ODBers! The OurDailyPodcast team is here to brighten your downtrodden spirits and they've brought a very special set of guests to the podcast! This time around, Mattisbear, DFank_BU and Tedvid all join the pod to talk tarp removal tactics, midseason roundtable review, picks of the week, and much much more. General hilarity ensues, plus an extra heaping of outtakes. I didn't even try to cut the pod down to an hour in length, so you're getting the extended edition today.

News & Notes

The tarp is off, and you know that now. If you don't, you've been living under a rock.

Roundtable Round Robin

We're talking Midseason Review on both sides of the ball, as well as taking some questions and listening to an audio call. Please note: In no way, shape, or form do we believe that "women are often possession." This comes straight from the Google Voice transcript. Listen to the show and you'll know what I'm talking about.

No Huddle

After putting out a late-in-the-day call for extra No Huddle questions and getting quite a few great ones, we ran out of time to do the segment this week. To all that sent in questions, thank you very much and I'm sorry we didn't get to them.

Picks of the Week

For entertainment purposes only, here are the picks of the week, including Amy's picks for discussion on Sunday's pod. If Prashanth ever sends me his, I'll update these notes with those also.

  • (Unanimous) West Virginia @ TCU (-13.5)
  • (Ted)Kansas @ Texas (-28) (AGP, Fank, Peter, Matt, Mark)
  • (AGP) Iowa State @ K-State (-17) (Matt, Ted, Peter, Mark)
  • (Ted, Peter, Mark) Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech (-2.5) (AGP, Fank)

Outtakes

There's other stuff that happens between the Picks and the Outtakes, but you know that already. But, a word about the outtakes: There is a little bit of off-color humor that kicks off the outtakes, so if you're super sensitive to such material, you've been warned. In the world of off-color humor, though, it's extremely mild. Enjoy your five minutes of outtakes, though.

We ensure you that there will be very little chicken talk, though there might be some. Let's do this.

News & Notes!

Kansas Goes Down, 59-14

Baylor's offense has a "slow start," but then surges forward in an impressive performance. There's fun to be had here.

Big 12 Picks of the Week Recap

Greetings, ODBers! It wouldn't be Thursday without OurDailyPodcast! Well, that is, unless something went wrong and the podcast doesn't drop until Friday, in which case it wouldn't be Friday without OurDailyPodcast. But I think we're safe this week. It's a bit of an unusual week for us on the podcast. Prashanth was unavailable due to real life commitments (something called school. I don't know what that is—I've blocked it out), so Matt Is Bear was going to fill in. But, literally three minutes before we were slated to record, he texted me that he'd be unable to attend due to a family emergency. He made the right decision. Mark and I decided to double-team this podcast instead of our standard 3-technique. Yes I'm mixing football terminology in ways that don't make sense. Roll with it!

First things first. If you're curious as to what the heck is going on with the nicknames this week, just know that they are anagrams of Greg Schiano. They're an homage to one of the funniest pieces that you can read this week: Jon Bois' incredible Breaking Madden: The Buccaneers and their 44 Greg Schianos. I'm not even kidding, it had me giggling uncontrollably. If you haven't yet, go read it. The podcast will be here for you, and you shouldn't divert your attention from either. And now, onto the show notes!

News & Notes

Wow, what a weekend, and what an eventful couple of days for our team. Your regular team of Mark, Prashanth and Peter are back to cover all of the weekend's goings on for your listening enjoyment. Here are your show notes!

News & Notes!

  • Baylor Needs YOU: In order to pull the tarp for Oklahoma (thus pulling it forever), Baylor needs to sell 1,700 tickets by THIS FRIDAY. So: Buy your tickets. If you aren't going to this game, go. If you can't, buy tickets and give them to friends/relatives/random people on the street and/or Internet. Just go. #BurnTheTarp
  • Baylor up to #5 in the Coaches' Poll, #6 in the AP!
  • Baylor is #8 in the BCS! Prashanth talks about why the computer polls kinda suck right now.

Big 12 Recap/Picks of the Week

Bottom line: We're terrible at picking games. But you know this.

Baylor Trounces Iowa State, 71-7!

All of the superlatives. It was beautiful. Fun times in front of an amazing Homecoming crowd.

For Lack of a Better Title, Knee-Jerk Reactions

We still need a great name for this. We've had a couple of suggestions, none of which have knocked the socks off. Feel free to put them in the show notes. Additionally, we only got four calls this week. We'd love to build this segment more, but we can't do it without your help! After the Kansas Game this week, give us a call at (774) 25-SICEM (257-4236) and leave us your reactions to the game and we'll put them in the show! Only you can make this segment great!

So, this episode is dropping WAY later than I'd originally hoped it would. I almost finished editing before work this morning but was in an all-day mediation and I didn't get home until a little while ago, so I'm just now getting this week's show up for your enjoyment.

This week, Spencer Hall joins us as our extra special guest! Normally we'd be previewing Iowa State, but there was so much fun to be had that we sort of threw convention out the window and went with it. Good times were had by all.

I don't even know that we have show notes for this week. Spencer Hall talks about Art Briles, Baylor football and the state of the program, plus he answers your No Huddle questions. Then Prashanth gives you the shortest preview in podcast history and we make our weekly picks (Mark, we need yours for Sunday). That's all I've got. Sorry folks, I'm in a rush to get this one out.

Join Mark, mattisbear and I (pbpope) as we spend UNDER AN HOUR talking about Baylor Football. That's right, we did it. We kept it under an hour. But enough of me. On with the show notes!

Recappin' Kansas State

  • The Defense - it wasn't pretty, but they did enough. And it wasn't as bad as you might have thought.
  • The Offense - again, they did enough, but there are definite things to work on!
  • Some fun with penalties sprinkled in there
  • Takeaways and lessons to be learned

Big 12 Quick Review

Talk about a weird Saturday.

Picks of the Week

Yeah, we picked terribly. It's pretty funny how bad our picks were, actually.

The Unnamed Knee-Jerk Reaction Segment

Seven of you guys were AMAZING and sent in your voicemails. That was fantastic. We play them for your enjoyment. Don't forget that you can call the voicemail line (which also needs a better name) at (774) 25-SICEM (257-4236) and leave us your voicemails. Another option would be to record a voice note on your smartphone and email it to OurDailyPodcast (at) gmail (dot) com.

Greetings, ODB'ers (ODBears? I like ODBears)! It's time for yet another episode of everyone's favorite official podcast of Our Daily Bears. Those other official podcasts of Our Daily Bears can suck it. We're the best. Join Mark, Prashanth and I as we wax poetic about the West Virginia game and all sorts of other fun topics. No special guest, but Mark Seymour is so money that we don't even need one this week. Try if you dare, but nobody can handle the bling that Prashanth brings. And now, onto the show notes!

All of that which was before had to be thrown out the window when about 25 minutes into the podcast, Prashanth's audio cut out and failed to return. 90 minutes of attempted resuscitation were an utter failure, and Prashanth's audio was pronounced dead on the scene. Due to his being a medical student, Prashanth was unavailable to re-record something tonight, so Mark and I decided to cut some audio quick and dirty. Mark put out the call on Twitter, and our very own Kirobaito answered the call. He joins us this week as our super-special lifesaving guest. Thanks, Kiro! You are a gentleman and a scholar.

PLEASE NOTE: The audio for this episode is probably pretty rough. I didn't edit it at all, and I recoded it all on my machine instead of using separate tracks like we normally do. Hopefully it's still listenable. It's pared down, so we don't have everything that would have been in the show had we recorded normally and it's a little more free-flowing. But, here's what you would have heard had we been able to give you the original audio. As it stands, we didn't really review WVU and spent only a couple of minutes on the preview. The rest is more fun stuff. But, here are the show notes as the would have been had all gone according to our original plan:

News & Notes

  • BIG HUGE PODCAST NEWS (you gotta listen to get it for now!)
  • The Solid Verbal says Baylor's floor is 10 wins. What the what. Seriously, if you don't yet, you should listen to their show. It's wildly entertaining.
  • Bill Connelly vs. Dan Rubenstein: The Baylor Love Fest Battle (this was totally going to be my show title at first)
  • Advanced stats are absolutely bonkers about Baylor right now. What the what!

West Virginia Breakdown

Yep, it was pretty amazing.

The No Huddle

Seriously, I thought you guys did fantastic with the questions this week. Keep 'em coming!

Kansas State Preview!

Stick around after the show closes down for special audio with the podcast from the K-State SB Nation Site Bring on The Cats! Ahearn Alley and Derek Smith join me for a fun time. It's worth sticking around for.

That's right, people. It's Thursday afternoon, and the podcast is dropping. It's a miracle. This week Bill Connelly of Football Study HallRock M Nation, and much, much more joins us to talk Baylor Football and lots of other stuff too! Bill's a great guy and a genius. We hope you enjoy him on this episode! SHOW NOTES!

Fun With Bill Connelly

No Huddle With Bill Connelly!

(I had to recycle some questions this week because not enough of you sent in No Huddle Questions. I'm so disappointed)

That's right, folks. You've been waiting with bated breath for the latest episode of OurDailyPodcast. Well, put the torches and pitchforks away, because Episode 7 is available for listening and download! And oh yeah, Dan Rubenstein joins us to talk about a wide variety of topics, including the potential vacancy of a certain head coaching position and Baylor's connection thereto, uniforms, Oregon and Baylor, the SEC, table side guac, and the sustainability of Baylor's success. We had some technical issues, so his audio sometimes cuts out. At any rate... Show notes! Oven the fluid conversation this week the structure is really barebones.

Fun with Dan Rubenstein

Special No Huddle with Dan Rubenstein!!

The ULM Recap

A couple of people were gracious enough to send in voicemail questions and we weren't able to get to them with Dan. Our apologies to Mark T. Bowers and PoppyBear on that front. Community Feedback was focused on questions to Dan, so we didn't have a separate segment for it.

Extra Special Shoutouts!

PoppyBear!

James Matus!!

Mark T. Bower!!!

Open weeks are the worst. The Worst. With Baylor's first open week of three this week, we try to cope (and probably fail miserably, but I'll let you all be the judge of that). This week Matt T. Wilson joins us to try and cheer us up. Apparently he decided to show up with a potato for a microphone, which explains his audio quality. Sorry about that. We'll work on it for the next time he comes on the show. As usual, we break our time records, but only by a little. Hey, when it's an open date, all bets are off and things get a little crazy on OurDailyPodcast. #KissTheBiceps. Read on for show notes, but first, here are a few important things to keep in mind for this episode of the podcast:

From Merriam-Webster Online:

lis·ten·er·ship noun \ˈlis-nər-ˌship, ˈli-sən-ər-

the audience for a radio program or recording; also : the number or kind of that audience

Ferdinand. You'll understand in a little bit.

And, now, The Show Notes!

The Triumphant Return of News & Notes!

The Buffalo Recap

No Huddle

"Swag" Discussion and Big 12 Look-ahead featuring Matt T. Wilson

#KissTheBiceps, people. Use it. It's going viral.

I should probably fill that out with more detail, but I'll just let you listen to the show. Please, enjoy.

First off, let me just apologize for the delay in getting this episode online. I had some serious challenges in editing this episode. My mic, which has usually been the most stable of the three, suddenly decided that it wanted to pick up the audio coming through my headphones, so I had to mute basically every second of my track that I wasn't talking. It was tedious. Add on top of that a really hectic day and you've got a recipe for a podcast episode being posted after 10:00 p.m. CDT. My bad. And oh yeah, it's long. We tried, folks. We really tried. Okay, maybe we didn't, but we thought about it.  Anyway, show notes!

ODB has Its Biggest Month Ever! And we're just getting started.

Ladies and gentlemen, gather 'round your podcast player of choice and enjoy Episode 3 of OurDailyPodcast! Right off the bat you'll notice that gone is the creepy, borderline-satanic "announcer" voice (and by announcer voice I mean my voice, modulated) in the intro. Instead, you'll be welcomed by the incredibly talented Chris Griesemer. Chris is a voice over actor and Baylor grad who graciously agreed to help us out with the intro and most likely some bumpers if we ever get around to having officially-named segments. He's doing this out of the kindness of his heart, so go check out his website at voiceforanychoice.com and if you need voice over work done, hire him now. Just listen to some of those demos. They're amazing.

My sincerest apologies to those asking for a shorter podcast. We really tried to keep the time down, but we got carried away and couldn't help ourselves. So, once again, this podcast comes in at around an hour and a half. We'll definitely be trying to work that down closer to an hour next week with the start of the season.

Also, joining us this week as our first ever special guest is BearsTruth's Brian Ethridge! Brian joins us for the full length of the podcast, providing valuable insight into Waffle House Wofford as we break down what the Bears can expect this Saturday. I must say, I like his predictions too. Listen to the show below or follow the links to download this week's episode. But first, the show notes!
